Burrito Mixup Lead To Recall

Phil’s Fresh Foods has announced a recall of nearly 15,800 pound of frozen fajita products because the foods somehow became switched.  According to Phil Fresh Foods' press release the chicken fajita packages may actually contain beef while the steak fajita products may actually contain chicken.

Consumers will want to look for:

  • 7-oz. cartons of “EVOL. BURRITOS FIRE GRILLED CHICKEN FAJITA”
  • 7-oz. cartons of “EVOL. BURRITOS FIRE GRILLED STEAK FAJITA”

The fajitas' packaging should have a USDA inspection mark with the establishment number “EST. 21015” or “P-21015” printed inside it and a lot number of “03311” on the plastic wrapping inside. Phil's says that these foods were produced between February 2nd and February 3rd of this year.  They were sold to retail stores across the country.

Unfortunately, the mixup was only reported to the company after a customer who had a beef allergy ate a steak fajita by mistake and suffered an allergic reaction.  Neither Phil's nor the FDA have received any other reports of illnesses or allergic reaction.
